Dhananjay Datar Talked About His Inspiring Journey
As a Maharashtrian Brahmin with a middle-class background, Dhananjay Datar, always thought of being employed at a corporate company. This classic societal norm is believed to be far better than stepping into the world of business. However, his father, Mahadev Datar, broke these stereotypical shackles and moved to Dubai to build his business from scratch.
Before this, Mahadev sir worked in the corporate world for five years; it was a contractual position. After it ended, the idea of running a small grocery store came to his mind. That is when he employed the 20-year-old Dhananjay at the store in Dubai and instructed him to partake in strenuous activities.
The Masala King recalled lifting heavy sacks of grocery items. At the age of 20, barely weighing just 47 kilograms, he would carry heavy sacks that weighed around 50 kilograms! Along with that, he would also work around the clock for up to 16 hours a day. He added, “I have walked and delivered sacks of chilli powder in the scorching heat, with temperatures as high as 45° C.”
After going through all the vigorous activities, he now proudly says that hard work always pays off. This is truly an exceptional story as he is the current owner of Al Adil!

Dhananjay Datar began to think about different ways to expand their grocery shop. As they mainly dealt with spices, he strategised to take a step forward in this direction. On the other hand, he surveyed and found that North Indian food products were in massive demand by Dubai residents.
So, he figured this would be a great idea to increase their income and it worked! Slowly, they started stocking up on standard North Indian food products and their sales shot up. And folks, that’s how the Masala King’s business became successful and a go-to store in Dubai. Now, he has around 50 stores, which is truly impressive!
