Just some time after the news of a massive chunk of road collapse in Delhi’s Janakpuri came a similar incident in Chembur. On Wednesday, a huge chunk of road in Chembur collapsed near an SRA building. Several vehicles that were stationed there also fell into the pit. A video from this site is going viral, with a car falling into the pit as the road collapses in no time. Reports suggest that the cave-in might be because of the piling work at the site.

A massive chunk of road collapsed in Chembur. The road adjoined Vasantdada Patil Pratisthan’s College of Engineering in Chunabhatti (East) and the SRA construction site.
A Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said that the cave-in might have been caused by the water seeping into the roads and piling work at the construction site. He mentioned that even though the piles also collapsed, no casualties were reported. The area around the piles must have been about 40 feet deep, and the piles were 50 feet deep.
If the tweets and reports are to be considered, about 40–50 vehicles, including scooters and cars, got trapped inside the pit.

The people residing in Rahul Nagar’s SRA building in Chembur said that they heard a very loud noise and were informed of a landslide. Now they have to pass through the BMC garden to get to the main road. BMC has allowed them all to use it for the time being.
Vasantdada Patil Pratisthan’s College of Engineering in Chunabhatti (East) has been shut for two days. This decision was taken after considering the safety of the students.
SRA’s CEO, Satish Lokhande, said that they have issued a stop-notice to the site developer. Harshad Kale, BMC Deputy Municipal Commissioner, said that the developer was very prompt to respond. The fire brigade, SRA officials, and civic body team reached the spot immediately after they were notified.
