Massive Fire Erupts Near Tirupati’s Govindaraja Swamy Temple; Damages Nearby Properties

Early Thursday morning, a major fire broke out near Tirupati’s Govindaraja Swamy Temple in Andhra Pradesh. A short circuit caused the fire at a tyre shop near the temple. Three fire engines rushed to the spot and doused the fire quickly, but a lot of properties in the vicinity reported major damage due to the blaze.

Fire Breaks Out Near Tirupati’s Govindaraja Swamy Temple

According to India Today, a fire near Govindaraja Swamy Temple in Tirupati on Thursday morning triggered panic among devotees and locals. The blaze erupted next to the temple, located about 9 km east-southeast of the Tirupati Balaji Temple. It is one of the oldest and largest temple complexes in the district and is under the administration of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.

As confirmed by ANI, the fire broke out at a tyre shop, named Tirupati Tyre Works, at around 4:30 AM. Three fire engines reached the spot and were successfully able to control the fire. However, a significant amount of property damage has been reported in the area, and authorities are now investigating the matter.

No Injuries Reported

While the fire near Govindaraja Swamy Temple in Tirupati triggered panic among devotees, no injuries were reported in this incident. So far, two shops and the tents outside the temple have been confirmed completely gutted by the authorities. They are also looking into the incident to take stock of the situation.

The Govindaraja Swamy Temple fire incident is the second major accident in Tirupati this year. In January, at least six people were killed and more than 40 were injured in a stampede at a token distribution centre for Vaikunta Ekadasi. Media reports suggest that thousands of devotees jostled for Vaikunta Dwara Darshan tokens, and due to poor crowd management and lack of barricades, the situation took a fatal turn.
