There are some who tend to misuse the staircase, causing a nuisance for other people. However, if a person is found guilty of doing the same in Abu Dhabi, they will now have to pay a hefty penalty. Yes, the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence has set a fine of AED10,000 for such violations, and here’s all you need to know about this.

Misuse Of The Staircase Can Fetch A Fine Of AED10,000

Abu Dhabi Civil Defence has announced a hefty penalty if a person is found guilty of misusing staircases in buildings across the UAE. Yes, this was outlined in the Cabinet Resolution No. 24 of 2012. It regulates the civil defence services nationwide, thereby applying to all the existing and future buildings and facilities. However, there is an exception for private standalone homes.

Staircases Must Remain Available For Their Intended Use

So basically, under this rule, staircases must remain accessible for their intended purpose, which is primarily for emergency exit and safe passage in case there is a fire or any other hazard. However, any misuse, which can lead to endangerment of public safety, will be met with harsh legal consequences. With the aim of strengthening safety and prevention standards, as revealed in a report by the Gulf News, this move was taken.

What Does Misuse Include?

At this point, it’s worth mentioning that such misuse includes leaving debris on the steps, blocking fire exits or not complying with maintaining handrails, which can lead to accidents. Some of the most common ways a staircase is misused are by obstructing exits and poor maintenance. The latter can include anything from missing proper lighting to handrails.

So, it is important to note that there is proper maintenance of staircases and that they are not misused, which can cause accidents or any other mishaps.
