Ahead Of Ramadan, Saudi Arabia Sets Rules For Mosques Nationwide During The Holy Month

Ramadan is just a few days away, and with the holy month approaching soon, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance in Saudi Arabia, has issued a comprehensive set of directives. This is to prepare mosques nationwide for the holy month of Ramadan.

Guidelines For Mosques During Ramadan

As revealed in a report of the Gulf News, the ministry has instructed mosques to adhere strictly to the prayer schedules based on the Umm Al Qura calendar. As it happens, it also mentioned that Isha prayer calls are to be delivered on time. Not to mention, it also specified that the interval between the call to prayer and the start of the congregational prayer should be 15 minutes. Especially for Isha and Fajr, in order to ensure attendance for worshippers.

Improved Services For Worshippers

Yes, the circular also mentioned how the guidelines also apply to imams, muezzins, and mosque workers. Additionally, it mentions how the regulations, which govern the mosque staff and outline the measures, which are aimed at improving service for worshippers.

Coming back to the circular, it also focused on the need for full attendance, and absences were only allowed in case of extreme necessity. However, they were subject to official approval with a substitute assigned in accordance with existing regulations.

More About Tahajjud Prayer

At this point, it’s worth mentioning that the final 10 nights of Ramadan, which is the Tahajjud prayer, would conclude before dawn. This would be done in a way that does not cause any hardship. The Tahajjud, which is a voluntary late-night prayer, is deeply important for Muslims. During the last 10 days, it is the time when they seek divine mercy and blessings.

Additionally, the guidelines also emphasised that application during Qunut should follow prophetic traditions. The report mentions that this must be marked by humility and restraint, and there should be avoidance of excessive length or ornate rhyming.

More Information Related To Donations

The ministry also reinstated its rules, which govern the installation of surveillance cameras inside the mosques. It’s about how these must not be used to film worshippers or imams during the prayer. Not to mention, live broadcasting or transmission of prayers through any media platform was also banned.

The circular also mentions that begging inside the mosque or in the immediate surroundings is strictly prohibited. Staff have been instructed to report violations immediately to the security authorities. Worshippers have also been urged to ensure that the zakat and charitable donations reach legitimate recipients. Finally, the Iftar meals must be organised only in the designated mosque courtyard. And this should be under the supervision of the mosque staff.

The sites should also be cleaned immediately after use, and the donations of bottled water must be regulated. It should be according to the actual need, and large-scale storage has been discouraged.
