Yes, the new edition will be coming to the sultanate in 2026, and we are here with the details

Oman Desert Marathon Dates Revealed

Organised by Oman Adventure, this is a desert race that will be taking place in the golden sands of Wilayat of Bidiyah, al Sharqiyah North Governorate. This will be the 11th edition of the Oman Desert Marathon and will be happening from January 10 to 14, 2026. The ultra-marathon has truly become more than just a competition. It has become a journey that allows participants to discover remote and untouched stands.

Registration Is Now Open

As it happens, registrations are now open for the multiple distances, which are included in the marathon. Yes, as revealed by Oman Observer, these include a marathon, which would be 42 km, a half-marathon of 21 km, a 10 km, 5 km, and kids’ race. As it happens, there is an expansion of inclusivity efforts for the next edition. And the management has already confirmed several details about the upcoming desert challenge.

What Are The Categories For This Race

For the 2026 edition, there will be multiple challenging desert crossing options, which will include the following:

  • A five-stage self-supported ultra-marathon, which would be a 165 km Classic Ultra. This would follow the ancient caravan route and would be from the historic Al Wasil Fort to the shores of the Arabian Sea.
  • An accessible introduction to the desert adventure would be through the 100 km Desert Hike. This would also cover the same route and will finish at the Arabian Sea.

The other races would be of the four main categories of 42 km, 21 km, 10 km, 5 km, and 2 km kids’ race. Registrations are already open!

As it happens, the Oman Desert Marathon has also earned SheRACES accreditation.. This gives it official recognition for meeting the highest standards for female inclusion in ultra running.
