Road safety in Dubai has always been an important topic of discussion. And to add more to the existing initiatives, Dubai RTA has announced new rules. Starting 1 November 2025, delivery bikes will face new restrictions on high-speed lanes as per the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Dubai Police General Headquarters. Here’s all you need to know about the update.

Dubai Tightens Lane Rules For Delivery Bikes To Boost Road Safety

As per the stated updated regulations to the Dubai Media Office, no riders will be allowed to travel in the two leftmost lanes on roads with five lanes or more. Also, riders will be banned from riding on the leftmost lane on roads with three or four lanes. There’s no lane restriction for riders on smaller two lanes or fewer.

According to a report by Dubai Media Office, the move comes after extensive coordination between public and private sector partners to protect delivery riders and other road users. But why suddenly, you ask? Well, the growing presence of delivery motorcycles in Dubai prompted the official to rethink traffic rules while supporting expanding the delivery sector.

Dubai Police’s Take On This Rule

Dubai Police stated to Dubai Media Office that reckless behaviour on high-speed lanes has also been a reason behind this decision. Police data show a worrying increase in traffic accidents involving delivery motorcycles, with 854 incidents last year rising to 962 in 2025. Violations are already widespread: over 78,000 citations have been issued in the first nine months of this year alone. The new lane restrictions, combined with fines starting at AED 500 for first offences, are designed to curb risky behaviour, reduce accidents, and save lives.

RTA and Dubai Police will coordinate on installing clear lane signage and running a comprehensive awareness campaign for riders to comply with these new rules. Delivery companies will play a part, spreading the message to ensure all riders understand where they can and cannot ride. In practice, it’s a hands-on approach to road safety that mixes enforcement, education, and incentives.

Speaking on the initiative, officials noted that companies whose riders stick to designated lanes will be recognised under the “Delivery Sector Excellence Award.”
