The city has increased the number of mosques. 13 new mosques were opened during the first quarter of 2026 by the Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department. The projects have an overall investment of AED162 million. Dubai’s population is growing, and infrastructure needs to keep up. The total number of worshippers these mosques can accommodate exceeds 10,400.
Dubai Adds 13 New Mosques In Q1 Of 2026
It is a really huge contribution, particularly in expanding neighbourhoods where facilities to access nearby prayer areas can hardly keep pace with the demand.
Mosques are at the core of that arrangement, which provides them with not only prayer areas but also a sense of belonging. The growth facilitates the larger objectives according to the Dubai Social Agenda 33 and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. These long-term policies aim at making life better and services easily accessible.
New Places For Future Mosques
This growth does not end with these 13 locations. The government has even allocated 10 plots of land to be used in building mosques in eight regions in the future.
They are Al Awir 1, Hind City 3, Al Yalayis 5, Al Khawaneej 2, Nad Al Sheba, Al Jaddaf, Al Qusais Industrial Area and Hatta.
There are five typical mosques and five neighbourhood mosques planned. The idea is simple. The larger mosques cover larger areas, and smaller ones fulfil the needs of the day in residential pockets.
According to the Gulf News, the strategy will help keep the services efficient and aligned towards the long-term sustainability objectives.
An Answer To Rapid Urban Growth
Mohammed Jassim Al Mansouri, who is the Director of Customer Service of the department, says that the expansion is in direct response to the increasing demand in new communities.
New districts are getting filled at a very high rate. In the absence of local mosques, the residents tend to commute farther distances to pray on a daily basis. These extensions minimise that distance and bring the much-needed services nearer to home.

What To Expect Next?
As new housing developments are built, Dubai’s mosque network is expected to expand. Accessibility, intelligent planning, and equal distribution throughout the city will remain in the spotlight. To the locals, it translates to fewer walks, reduced congestion and increased access to community spaces.
