Dubai is trying to ease pressure on businesses after weeks of regional uncertainty hit travel, hospitality and trade harder than expected. The government has now approved an AED1.5 billion relief package, and some of the biggest changes will probably be noticed by Dubai hotel guests and restaurants first.

Dubai Suspends Hotel & Restaurant Taxes In AED1.5 Billion Relief Move

The package includes suspending the Tourism Dirham fee charged on hotel stays and also removing the 7 per cent municipality fee usually added to hotel and restaurant bills. For travellers and residents dining out, that could mean slightly lower costs for now.

This comes as tourism and aviation continue dealing with the fallout from the Iran conflict that started earlier this year. Flights were disrupted, travel demand dipped, and many hospitality businesses have been feeling the slowdown quietly in the background.

Hotels And Restaurants Get Relaxations

For many hotels, especially higher-end ones, the nightly Tourism Dirham fee has always been part of the bill. In some cases, guests paid up to AED20 extra per night depending on the property category.

Now, that charge is being paused along with other tourism-related fees. Holiday home operators will also see exemptions on permit and licence charges, while conferences and exhibitions won’t have to deal with cancellation or postponement penalties for the time being.

Also, tour guides and desert safari operators are getting fee reductions too. Which honestly makes sense because tourism businesses were among the first to feel the impact once travel confidence dropped.

Schools And Nurseries Are Included Too

The support package isn’t only about tourism. Private nurseries and early learning centres regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority will receive relief through waived renewal fees, rent support and postponed payments.

Some schools and education centres will also get temporary freezes on rent increases. Others may receive exemptions linked to cancelled contracts and insurance guarantees.

That said, parents probably won’t see overnight fee cuts. But operators may get a bit more room to manage costs without immediately passing pressure onto families.

Businesses Facing Disruption Get Extra Support

Several sectors affected by the slowdown are being given one-time exemptions from certain government charges. This includes marina operators, event companies, aviation businesses and even fireworks and drone-related firms.

The Dubai Department of Finance is also lowering financial guarantee requirements for companies working on government supply contracts, which could help smaller businesses manage cash flow more easily.

Meanwhile, the property sector is seeing permit extensions, while Emiratis with housing construction loans under the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment will get more time on approvals.

Dubai had already launched an AED1 billion support fund earlier this year. This new package builds on that, with officials clearly trying to steady things before the slowdown spreads further.
