Recently, Dubai RTA organised the Dubai World Congress and Challenge for Self-Driving Transport. And during this event, the authority unveiled that an expansive area of 15 kilometres will be dedicated towards the Dubai Autonomous Zone. With this development redefining how people travel, here’s all about it!
Dubai Autonomous Zone Unveiled!
During the Dubai World Congress and Challenge for Self-Driving Transport, the Dubai Autonomous Zone was unveiled. This would redefine the way people travel and how they can move between destinations with the help of these fully automated vehicles by land and water, as revealed by Khaleej Times. This is quite a crucial zone for driverless vehicles, and for integrating them into the existing urban mobility.
The Zone Will Span 15 Km
With this introduction, it will help Dubai move towards the goal of having 25 per cent of transportation as driverless and smart by 2030. The hallmark of this zone is the fact that one will be able to move around the zone by using multiple modes of transport, which are driverless. So, whether it’s taxis, shuttle buses, or even an abra, they have got you covered.
What Areas Will Be Covered?
Now, the next question that arises is about the route. As per the same report, the areas that will be covered in the autonomous zone include Creek Station on the Dubai Metro Green Line, situated in Al Jaddaf, which would extend towards Dubai Creek Harbour and Dubai Festival City. So, when a person is in the zone, they can get by travelling via the Dubai Metro or even Abra from the Creek Station to Dubai Festival City.

It was also revealed that robotaxis will be rolled out to the public in this zone. As it happens, this is currently under trial in some areas of Dubai. And with the trial already underway before its 2026 launch, RoboTaxis will be plying in DAZ. In case you’re wondering, popular companies like Pony.ai, WeRide, and Apollo Go are collaborating with government authorities to bring their autonomous vehicles onto the Dubai roads.
