Dubai’s Catholic community just got some welcome news. Two of the city’s biggest catholic churches, St Mary’s in Oud Metha and St Francis of Assisi in Jebel Ali, Dubai, have announced a full 100% reopening after months of temporary restrictions.
Dubai’s Catholic Churches Announce 100% Reopening After Months Of Restrictions
What Changed
St Mary’s shared the update from the Community Development Authority directly with parishioners, confirming the reopening kicked in from 1 July. St Francis of Assisi made a similar announcement on Instagram, saying the church is now “open to resume all activities” and asking worshippers to keep things respectful as everyone settles back in.
Why Does This Reopening Matter To The Residents Of The Emirate?
The restrictions go back to April, when both churches had to suspend outdoor gatherings and cap weekend mass attendance at adults aged 18 and above. Anyone wanting to attend had to register online in advance, and children weren’t allowed in at all. Families who couldn’t get a spot were pointed towards the livestream instead. For Dubai’s large Catholic expat community, that’s been a long few months of adjusting plans around a mass schedule that wasn’t quite normal.

What’s Next
Both churches have said regular parish activities are back on the table now. It’s a small but meaningful shift for the city’s religious calendar and comes at a time when Dubai’s places of worship, whether churches, temples or mandirs, continue to reflect just how multicultural the emirate really is.
That’s it, no more registration hoops, no age cap, just walk in for Mass like before. If you’re part of the community, it might be worth checking your parish’s socials for exact updated timings before you head down this weekend.
