Eid Al-Adha Is Likely Predicted To Fall On This Date In May!

It’s no secret that Eid al-Adha is the next much-awaited holiday in the UAE. However, not just in the UAE, but across the Middle East, it’s one of the most awaited holidays on the Islamic calendar. And it is being predicted that Eid al-Adha might fall on May 27th, a Wednesday. However, this is according to astronomical calculations and here’s all about it.

When Is Eid al-Adha Predicted?

As mentioned by Ibrahim Al Jarwan, who is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomical Society and a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, Eid al-Adha can fall on May 27th Wednesday, if one goes by astronomical calculations.

As mentioned by the Gulf News, which quoted Emarat Al Youm, an Arabic daily, it was clarified by him that Monday, May 18th might mark the start of the first Dhu Al Hijjah, which is the 12th and the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The Day of Arafah, which falls before Eid al-Adha, might happen on Tuesday, May 26th. For those wondering, it is the most significant day of the Hajj pilgrimage.

What Do Astronomical Calculations Predict?

So, going by the astronomical calculations, the crescent moon of Dhu Al Hijjah might appear at 12:01 AM UAE time on Sunday, May 17th. And by sunset of the same day, it is expected that the moon may set about 58 minutes after the sun. As it happens, this occasion coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca. It is marked by special prayers, charitable giving and ritual sacrifices of livestock.

More About The Festival

For those who aren’t aware, Eid al-Adha is famous as the festival of sacrifice. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. However, he was later divinely instructed to sacrifice a ram instead. So, many families ritually sacrifice livestock, and the meat is then distributed to the family members and those in need.

At this point, it’s worth mentioning that this is just according to the astronomical calculations. The final days will be decided on the basis of the traditional moon sighting process. After all, Islamic occasions are on the basis of these traditional methods and the final confirmation only comes in after the relevant authority sights the moon closer to the time.
