Recently, the Riyadh Municipality unveiled how they are planning to upgrade central areas. These will be located across four districts of the capital. Not to mention, it is a part of a major makeover project that aims to transform Riyadh. With this transformation done, it will make Riyadh more livable, people-friendly, and sustainable. Here’s all you need to know about this major makeover project of the capital city.
Riyadh Announces Major Makeover Project
As revealed in a report by the SPA, Riyadh Municipality aims to undertake a major makeover of the city. As a result, they aim to transform the city into a vibrant hub that’s also sustainable. With their focus on creating extensive green spaces, the aim is to foster cultural activities, improve infrastructure, and even make recreational facilities better. This would, in turn, enhance the quality of life and attract visitors.
Four Districts To Get A Makeover
Spanning about 14.2 km and covering 3,76,000 m², the project targets four districts. This includes Al Rawdah, Al Suwaidi Al Gharbi, Al Rawabi, and Al Mughrizat. Once the developments are done, it’s bound to reshape the district! This would include the construction of 14 km of pedestrian pathways and over 9 km of cycling tracks. Not to mention, the plan also includes plantation of 4,80,000 trees and shrubs, creation of 4,000 parking spaces and a new urban plaza.
It should be noted that the initiative has been designed in such a way that it has transformed local spaces into a vibrant, people-centric environment. With this, there will be social interaction and economic activity, not to mention improvement in the infrastructure as well. It should be noted that neighbourhoods will be linked to key destinations and even essential services.

Saudi Arabia To Build 1,000 Dams
A part of the broader strategy of upgrading public facilities, Riyadh Municipality mentions how it aims to enhance the design and functionality. Moreover, it also aims to deliver modern integrated settings, not just for residents but even for visitors. This announcement comes at a time when Saudi Arabia recently announced how it plans to construct over 1,000 rainwater harvesting dams across the country with the aim of harvesting a combined capacity of four million cubic metres of water. The collected water will support groundwater recharge, restore natural ecosystems, and support agriculture.
So, with this development, you truly expect the aforementioned districts in Riyadh to look quite amazing and be more sustainable for residents and tourists.
