Scammers do not keep silent when tensions are heated. They get louder and smarter. Dubai Police made it clear that they have warned the residents after claims that they have started receiving fake calls and WhatsApp messages appeared, and at the right time, this time of Eid and the current uncertainty in this region.

Dubai Police Warn Residents About Fake Eid Alerts And UAE Pass Scams

The aim is to get people off guard, deceive them into disclosing sensitive information. And yes, it is working elsewhere, too.

How The Scam Actually Works

According to the report by Gulf News, citizens have received suspicious calls on the number of which one is widely circulated on WhatsApp. The caller identifies himself as someone working in the Ministry of Interior or under the name of some so-called Dubai Crisis Management department.

First, they demand to know whether he caused the resident to get a national warning. Next comes the actual demand: Emirates ID information or UAE Pass logins, which are allegedly required to verify the information.

This Is The Reason Why The Dubai Police Is Taking It Seriously

Dubai Police confirmed that fraudsters are using the ongoing events to stress people into taking immediate actions. When criminals obtain the information about the UAE Pass or the Emirates ID, they are able to commit SIM swap fraud.

That leaves the possibility of something worse, the unauthorised access to mobile banking applications and financial accounts.

Law enforcers have always emphasised a single thing; no government agency will ever demand any passwords, one-time codes or ID numbers to be provided via ephone or text. Not during Eid or during emergencies.

How To Deal With An Attack By One Of These Calls

  1. When a call just does not feel right, believe it and act accordingly
  2. Do not provide your details, Emirates ID or UAE Pass.
  3. Hang up immediately
  4. Place a call to the Dubai Police by dialling 901.
  5. It is also possible to report cyber fraud using the eCrime platform.

One act of communicating personal data once creates future fraud.

Why Timing Matters Right Now

Fraudsters do well when it is a period of rush and feelings. Eid, the increased news round and community warnings provide the ideal disguise of psychological authority.

Dubai Police are not telling people to be scared of them but to be alert in order to make them stop and think, and check before acting.
