Today’s GCC Updates compilation has a different range of news. From rehabilitated turtles to cashless parking, the region is focusing on news that’s beyond just travel and rules. So here’s a guide for a quick glance for you.
5 GCC Updates For You
1. Cebu Pacific Halts Flights To Dubai Till May 31
Philippine airline Cebu Pacific has also cancelled flights to and out of Dubai until May 31, still because of security fears in the Middle East. The airline indicated that the safety of passengers and the crew was its number one priority since the tension in the region was still affecting air travel. The suspended travellers will have an option of free rebooking within 30 days, changing the tickets to a travel fund, or receiving a full refund. Cebu Pacific has encouraged passengers to continue checking their flight updates and update their contacts to receive notifications on time.
2. Salik Introduces Cashless Valet Parking In The UAE.
Salik is currently implementing a new cashless valet parking payment system in the UAE in collaboration with Valtrans Transportation Systems and Services. Starting June 1, drivers can pay their valet parking fees via Salik e-wallet at over 100 destinations, including such hotspots as Mall of the Emirates and Dubai International Financial Centre. The move intends to ensure faster payment and minimise delays in busy venues. There has not been an announcement of any rise in the charges for valet parking.
3. Red Shrimp Wash Ashore In Mirbat, Oman
The government in Mirbat is investigating the case of thousands of red shrimp washing ashore on local beaches. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the die-off is probably attributed to the natural variation of sea temperature and oxygen, rather than pollution. Tests by experts at the Fisheries Research Centre are underway, but the results so far indicate a lack of damage to other marine species. Authorities have cautioned people against consuming any shrimp on the beach. Other cases of this have been reported to occur in the past when marine seasons changed.
4. Qatar Airways Is Resuming Flights To Doha In The UAE
Qatar Airways has also reinstated its flights between Doha and the UAE after weeks of disruptions in regional travel due to temporary airspace closures. As part of a gradual network recovery, the airline has resumed daily flights to Dubai and Sharjah. In the next few weeks, more routes and frequencies will be unaffected as the Gulf aviation operations stabilise. The reintroduced services will enable the UAE travellers to have easier access to regional journeys as well as long-haul travel via Doha, which is among the busiest transit stations in the Middle East.

5. Fujairah Environment Authority Releases Rehabilitated Turtles
The Fujairah Research Centre, along with the Fujairah Environment Authority, released the rehabilitated green sea turtles into the wild at Al Aqah Beach. The project is a part of the conservation project of Atlantis Dubai to monitor turtle migration and nesting behaviours with motion sensors. According to the officials, the data will aid in intensifying the conservation and restoration of marine habitats. The authority has also initiated the 800 hotline to report injured/distressed marine animals.
