From Hans Zimmer Joining Qatar Airways To Steve Harvey Bringing BBQ Fest To Abu Dhabi, 5 GCC Updates For You

Big names, bold moves. From Hollywood scores taking flight to smoky ribs sizzling in Abu Dhabi, the GCC has no shortage of updates this week. Let’s dive into the five buzzing news.

5 GCC Updates For You

1. Sheikh Sultan Steps In to Support UAE Family

In a powerful gesture of compassion, His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, has stepped in to cover the full medical treatment of a UAE resident’s father. The story came to light on the “Direct Line” radio show, where Umm Mohammed made a heartfelt plea for help. Her father had been undergoing treatment at Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi for over a year and five months, but their insurance recently stopped covering the bills.

Sheikh Sultan heard her message and wasted no time. He immediately directed the Sharjah Health Authority to ensure her father’s treatment continues, regardless of insurance limits. Dr Abdul Aziz Al Muhairi confirmed that the Ruler’s office will cover the full cost, either at Burjeel or the University Hospital in Sharjah, based on the family’s preference.

2. Hans Zimmer Joins Qatar Airways’ Soundtrack

Hans Zimmer, the Oscar-winning genius behind some of Hollywood’s most unforgettable scores, has teamed up with Qatar Airways to give the airline a fresh, new sound. Yep, the man who made Inception, Interstellar, and Top Gun: Maverick feel larger than life is now bringing that same magic to the skies. In a bold brand move, Qatar Airways has roped in Zimmer to craft a sonic identity that echoes its luxury and global flair. It’s not just a jingle, it’s a soundtrack for every take-off

3. Etihad and Revolut Let You Spend Smart and Fly Far

In a savvy fintech-meets-travel partnership, Etihad Airways has teamed up with Revolut to launch a joint rewards programme that actually makes everyday spending feel rewarding. Revolut users can now convert RevPoints into Etihad Guest Miles directly through the app. No minimum transfer. No fuss. That cup of coffee or grocery swipe could now land you a seat to destinations like Phnom Penh, Sumatra or Hong Kong. From free upgrades to hotel stays and curated travel experiences, the Etihad Guest Reward Shop just got more accessible.

4. Steve Harvey Brings BBQ Heat Back to Abu Dhabi

Food fans, mark your calendars. The Open Fire Food Festival returns to Etihad Park on November 8 and 9, and yes, Steve Harvey is bringing the heat again. Following last year’s crowd-pleasing, flame-grilled success, the American TV host will host another fire-filled weekend. Expect top-tier pitmasters, sizzling meats, smoky flavours and hands-on masterclasses. Live-fire cooking meets live music for a full-sensory festival that’s equal parts delicious and entertaining.
