1. Lightning Strikes Burj Khalifa & Sheikh Hamdan Announces Remote Work
Across the UAE, heavy rain and thunderstorms rolled in as the Al Bashayer low-pressure system hit its peak. Then came the lightning that struck the tip of the Burj Khalifa. The footage, shared by Sheikh Hamdan, showed the tower standing tall against dark, rain-heavy skies. He had already warned residents to stay alert. But, as the rain intensified, Sheikh Hamdan announced remote working for all government employees on Friday, December 19. Only exceptions for roles that must be on-site are allowed to work from the office. The private sector was also encouraged to follow the same approach as mentioned by ArnNewsCentre.
2. Air India Express Plane Makes Safe Emergency Landing in Kochi
Air India Express flight from Jeddah to Kozhikode made an emergency landing in Kochi after the pilot detected a landing gear issue mid-air. The aircraft, carrying around 160 passengers, touched down safely at Cochin International Airport at 9.07 am. Emergency procedures were activated, and a post-landing inspection found two burst tyres. Passengers were escorted safely to the terminal and were offered alternate travel arrangements, as reported by Gulf Today.
3. Qatar’s Himyan Payment Card Now Accepted Across Kuwait
The Qatar Central Bank has unveiled that the national Himyan payment card is now accepted across Kuwait. Cardholders can use it for purchases and cash withdrawals at ATMs. According to the Qatar News Agency, the move strengthens GCC financial cooperation and supports regional digital payment integration.
4. PM Narendra Modi Receives Oman’s Highest Civilian Honour
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up a two-day visit to Oman that highlighted deep-rooted ties built on trade, culture, and shared interests. During the visit, he received Oman’s highest civilian honour, the First Class of the Order of Oman. The recognition places him alongside global figures such as Queen Elizabeth II, Emperor Akihito of Japan, Nelson Mandela, and King Abdullah II of Jordan, as noted by Firstpost and Times of India.

5. Air Samarkand To Launch Tashkent–Abu Dhabi Charter Flights
Uzbek carrier Air Samarkand will launch seasonal charter flights between Tashkent and Abu Dhabi starting December 26, 2025. The weekly Friday service, operated using Airbus A321 aircraft, will run until February 20, 2026, according to Trend.az.
