A fresh batch of GCC Updates is out! From the UAE bringing AI deeper into government work to traffic changes in Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah, there’s quite a bit residents may want to keep an eye on. Also, Indian nationals in Qatar are being told to stay cautious because of the current situation there.

Here Are 5 GCC Updates For You

1. UAE Wants AI Running Half Of Government Services

The UAE is going big on AI again. During a recent cabinet meeting, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said the country plans to use Agentic AI across 50% of government services within the next two years. Basically, these systems can work more independently instead of waiting for human input all the time. The idea is to make government services quicker and reduce costs too. But ministries won’t just install the tech and move on. They’ll actually be assessed on how well they use it. Government staff will also get training to work alongside these AI systems.

2. Abu Dhabi Is Adding Two More Darb Toll Gates

Drivers in Abu Dhabi will soon have two extra toll points to deal with. The new Darb gates will start working from May 4, 2026. One will be on Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Street in Ghantoot, while the other will sit near Sheikh Zayed Street on Wahat Al Karama Street. The charge stays at Dhs4 per crossing. Some people may still qualify for exemptions, though, including senior Emiratis, people of determination and certain electric vehicle owners.

3. Qatar Tightens Food Safety Checks Across Markets And Entry Points

Qatar is increasing food safety checks, especially on meat, poultry, seafood, and dairy products that rot quickly. The Ministry of Public Health of the country said that inspection teams are now checking border entry points, local markets, and food distribution areas more often. Officials are also getting more samples for lab tests to make sure that products meet safety standards before they are sold to the public. For a lot of people who live here, this is a big deal, especially when there is a lot of demand for food and fresh and imported goods move through markets more quickly.

4. Road Closures In Ras Al Khaimah May Slow Drivers Down

If you drive through Ras Al Khaimah often, expect some detours. Authorities have temporarily closed several turns along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road as part of a major road upgrade project. Drivers are being redirected through other routes for now. That said, the bigger project is supposed to improve traffic in the long run with wider roads and upgraded infrastructure.

5. UAE Starts Digital Document Attestation Pilot

The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is introducing a new digital attestation service that starts from April 27. People will be able to verify certain electronic documents online using QR codes, barcodes or reference numbers. The process will work through the ministry website and smart app, too. Officials say this should make paperwork faster and easier. Which honestly sounds like something most residents won’t complain about.

For residents across the GCC, these updates could affect everyday life more than expected. That’s all for today’s GCC Updates. We will be back next week with more!
