It was recently revealed that Saudi Arabia has discovered what’s touted to be the oldest non-human settlements in Masiyon. This is in Wadi Damm, which falls towards the Northwest of Tabuk City. As it happens, it dates approximately 11,000 years and is truly an extraordinary find. Here’s all you need to know about the massive archaeological discovery.

Saudi Heritage Commission Discovers Human Settlement

As revealed in a report by the Saudi Gazette, the Saudi Heritage Commission has made a massive archaeological discovery. This was revealed during a press conference on Thursday, September 25. One of the most important findings in the recent history of the kingdom, archaeologists have confirmed that the site discovered dates back to the Neolithic period. For those who are wondering, this is the pre-pottery period and is expected to be about 10,300 to 11,000 years old. In fact, it could be the beginning of human settlement in the north-west of the kingdom.

Several Items Found During Excavation

Expected to be the oldest known settlement in the Arabian Peninsula, the excavations were carried out by the Saudi Heritage Commission in partnership with Kanazawa University of Japan. They also collaborated with NEOM for this purpose. During their excavation, it was revealed that semi-circular stone structures formed residential units. There were also storage areas, passageways, and fire pits. Not to mention, along with stone tools like arrowheads, grinding stones, and knives, decorative items were also discovered. These decorative items were crafted from materials like quartz, amazonite, and shells. It truly gives us an insight into the history of human settlements in Saudi Arabia!
