Salik Jordan To Be Launched Soon

With the aim of achieving the aforementioned goals, the first nationwide toll road system, called Salik Jordan was introduced. The hints of this project, as revealed in the Gulf News, had emerged earlier this year. This happened when the electronic gates were spotted on the Muqer-Omari Road, which is a highway that links Amman with Saudi Arabia. Now, as revealed by the Jordanian officials, the system will mirror a successful model in the UAE, Egypt, Morocco, and even some parts of Europe.

The plan is to combine automated tolling with their being option for free alternative roads. In fact, Jordan has been designed in such a way that it will save time and money for the citizens. It also ensures that users can retain free access if that’s what they choose. Following the similar trajectory of the aforementioned countries, the revenue will be used for fund maintenance and future development.

What About The Pricing?

With this introduction of tolls, pressure on the state budget will be reduced, and it will also align the kingdom with international standards when it comes to transport efficiency and sustainability. Small vehicles are expected to pay 11 fils per kilometre. Although trucks and buses will be charged 22 fils per kilometre. However, it is being insisted by the government that alternative free roads will continue to remain available.

Additionally, if this new system is launched on time, it will represent one of the most important overhauls of the road infrastructure in Jordan in several years.
