Kuwait recently announced that it has launched a new online service. Through this online service, eligible former citizens can apply to amend their residency status. This can be done through the Sahel Government app, which expands digital access to some of the recently introduced long-term residency schemes. Here’s all you need to know about this development relating to residency status for former citizens.
Kuwait Launches New Residency Status Service
Gulf News in its report has mentioned how Kuwait has launched a new online service. Yes, basically the service allows eligible former citizens to apply to amend their residency status. The service applies to residents who are eligible under Article 7 bis. This is the new personal sponsorship residency category, which covers certain people whose Kuwaiti citizenship had been withdrawn. It also includes those who have acquired citizenship through dependency. However, they must ensure that they have regained their original foreign nationality or obtained another nationality.
The Process Can Be Completed Online
The service was launched on Sunday, September 27th by the Public Authority for Civil Information. So, eligible applicants are allowed to complete the process electronically instead of relying on in-person procedures. With the service, the procedure for application, just got a lot more easier for those who are eligible.

Kuwait Recently Introduced New Residency Framework
The development comes just days after Kuwait introduced a new residency framework. Under this framework, certain people who had lost Kuwaiti citizenship could now obtain residence permits for up to 10 years. These changes were issued under Ministerial Decision No. 1410 of 2026. It amended the executive regulations of the foreigners’ residency law that were in Ministerial Decision No. 2249 of 2025. As it happens, the decision was published in the official gazette of Kuwait Al Youm.
So, basically, according to the new decree, the Article 7 bis applies to people whose Kuwaiti citizenship had been withdrawn under Clause 4 of Article 13 of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959. And it also includes those who have acquired citizenship through dependency and were included in the withdrawal decree, given they have reverted to their original foreign nationality or have obtained another nationality. Eligible applicants may even be granted regular residency for up to 10 years under his decision.
