Mandatory To Take Approval For Vehicle Colour Change
As revealed in a report by The Times of India, an Indian daily, the Ministry of Interior and related departments have rolled out a new regulatory framework. The aim is to ensure that it aligns with the international standards so that illegal modifications can be prevented. A Fine Of KWD500 For Non-Compliance
Even workshops and garages are not allowed to make this change if there is no prior approval from the traffic department. In case an unauthorised colour change does happen, it will be subject to a fine of KWD500 as imposed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Not to mention, anyone who violates this rule will have to face legal consequences. Especially those that fall under the updated 2025 traffic rules.
A Look At The Entire Process
So, how can someone change the colour of their vehicle? Well, take a look at the process as laid out for legally changing the vehicle colour.
- The first step is to get approval from the Technical Inspection Department from the International Standards Section to get the approval for the new colour. During this visit, they will have to sign a formal pledge that confirms the commitment towards this colour change.
- Once the first step is clear and the approval is granted, the vehicle owner will then have to take their car to an authorised workshop. There, they must specialise in professional vehicle colour modifications. This will ensure the paint change meets the technical and quality standards as per the authorities.
- Once the colour is changed, the vehicle owner will have to return to the International Standards Section so that they can finally verify the new colour. Once the inspected vehicle confirms compliance and it is approved, the vehicle registration documents are updated so that the new colour is reflected.

Aims To Prevent Illicit Modifications
So, basically, drivers will have to seek prior approval before they can get on with repainting their vehicle. Not to mention, only authorised workshops can undertake the paint job. Finally, these must be followed in order to avoid any kind of heavy penalty and legal issues. The aim is to ensure there are no illicit modifications. These modifications can sometimes complicate vehicle identification and even legal accountability. So, in order to promote transparency, this step has been taken.
