The Holy Qur’an Museum at Makkah’s Hira Cultural District has added a new display. A monumental handwritten copy of the Holy Quran now holds the title of the World’s largest Handwritten Quran. It is a carefully crafted manuscript that commands attention the minute you lay your eyes on it.

The manuscript measures an astonishing 312 cm by 220 cm and spans 700 pages. Its size earned the museum official recognition from Guinness World Records. But this Quran is not just about numbers but reverence, patience, and mastery passed down through centuries.
Guinness Recognition And A Legacy Backed By History
According to a report by Arab News, the Holy Quran Museum received global recognition for showcasing this record-breaking manuscript. The Saudi Press Agency confirmed the Guinness World Records title, placing Makkah firmly on the global cultural map once again.
What makes this even more special is its origin story. The massive manuscript is a magnified reproduction of a historic Quran that dates back to the 16th century. The original copy was in the size of 45 cm by 30 cm. It represents an era when calligraphy was both a spiritual act and a respected art form.
Calligraphy Art’s Major Role In Quran
This Quran are written in Thuluth script. Then comes Surah Al-Fatiha, set apart in Naskh, which is clearer, softer on the eye, and perfect for a chapter recited daily by millions.
Look closer, and the details like the Gold accents and sun-shaped motifs frame the opening folio. The frontispiece and title pages are rich with pattern and symmetry.

A Sacred Legacy
The original manuscript of the Quran was dedicated as a waqf in 1883. It was offered as a gift to future generations. Today, that original copy rests at the King Abdulaziz Complex for Endowment Libraries, preserved with care and respect.
