Tuesday afternoon proved to be unexpectedly shaky for some residents in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. At around 4:40 pm UAE time on November 4, the ground gave a brief, unpredictable jolt. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) confirmed that a magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck southern Musandam, Oman, at a shallow depth of 5 kilometres, and the tremors were felt across the UAE.

Given the low magnitude, the tremors were felt across the UAE, but thankfully, authorities quickly clarified that there were no casualties. The tremor had no impact on the UAE’s infrastructure or daily life. Although it was mild enough, it did cause a few moments of unease for the residents. NCM reassured residents that seismic activity of this low scale is not uncommon in the region and is usually harmless when occurring offshore or at shallow depths.

Residents React Online

As expected, Social media was blowing up with updates from surprised residents. The light shaking in their homes and offices had left them shocked. Many from Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah shared short videos and messages on X. According to a report by Gulf News,  the conversations reflected more curiosity than concern because of how brief and mild the tremor was.

Understanding Regional Seismic Activity

The UAE itself lies in a relatively low seismic risk zone. But, due to its proximity to the Zagros fault line in southern Iran and Oman, the region occasionally feels tremors along the country’s northern and eastern regions. The NCM maintains an advanced monitoring system that tracks such seismic events in real-time. This ensures immediate updates to the public and relevant authorities about similar incidents.

Calm After The Quake

The situation has turned back to normal by the evening in the UAE. Thanks to NCM, the UAE is well-prepared to alert the crowd about such natural occurrences. Experts emphasised that mild tremors like this are not alarming. Although they do underline the importance of staying informed and aware.

In short, it was a brief moment of shaking due to the 4.6 magnitude earthquake across UAE on an otherwise calm day.
