Oman Just Eased Residency Rules For Foreign Property Holders, Here’s What It Means

Oman has announced that it has eased residency rules for foreign property owners and investors. Yes, it has introduced some big changes to its residency framework for them. As a result, now eligible applicants can obtain their visa and residence permit without there being a need for a local sponsor. Aiming to strengthen the Sultanate’s appeal as a destination for long-term investment, here’s all you need to know about this development relating to residency regulations.

Oman Eases Residency Regulations For Foreign Investors

The Royal Oman Police, under Decision No. 87/2026, issued these amendments that were published in the Official Gazette. It revises these provisions of the executive regulations of the Foreigners’ Residence Law. It expands residency pathways for foreign nationals who own designated development or residential units. And it also includes properties which have not yet completed the registration process.

A Muscat Daily report mentions how foreign buyers may obtain their visas and residency permits based on certification from relevant authorities instead of sponsorship from an Omani national or company. This benefit extends to first-degree family members along with legal representatives of corporate entities that own property in Oman.

More About The Development

Visas which are linked to unregistered properties are to be issued for a period ranging from six months to one year and may be renewed. Holders can stay in Oman for up to three months per visit. It should be noted that these reforms simplify procedures which aim to obtain an owner visa. So, applicants must enter within three months of the visa being issued.

This amendment also increases the number of categories of individuals who are eligible to sponsor family members. Yes, this includes GCC nationals, licensed foreign investors, expatriates employed by the government entities and foreign property owners.

So, with the ease of residency regulations, the country aims to invite more long-term investment.
