As revealed by the Oman News Agency, the Dhofar Governorate in Oman has signed an agreement. Yes, this agreement is for building the first mosque with the help of 3-D printing technology, which is also going to be the first-of-its-kind in the country. To be constructed by Innotech Oman, here’s all you need to know about this development.

3-D Printed Mosques In The Dhofar Governorate

Oman will soon get its first 3-D printed mosques in the Dhofar Governorate. The architectural concept, as revealed in the initial design, is inspired by spiral ribbon. With shaded walkways and tiered green spaces, the design also features energy harvesting technologies. By capturing motion, wind, and solar power, the energy will be harvested. With an oval prayer hall that will be eliminated by a central oculus, natural light will flood.

Minaret Of The Mosque To Be Inspired By Omani Sail

Coming to the Minaret of the mosque, it is inspired by the Omani Sail. Additionally, a traditional incense burner will be crowned with an Islamic Crescent. This would blend heritage and modernity. Once the mosque is completed, it will become not just a spiritual but even an urban centrepiece that will harmonise authenticity and innovation.

As part of the Dahariz Waterfront Development Plan in Salalah, this agreement was signed. The mosque is expected to become a spiritual, architectural and cultural landmark along the Dahariz Beach. Featuring a landscape of plants resistant to salt and wind, it truly showcases the first commitment towards sustainable urban identity.

Other 3-D Buildings Coming Up In The Region

At this point, it should be noted that this development comes at a time when the world’s first zero mosque opening was announced for Abu Dhabi. The mosque is expected to open in October and has been commissioned by Masdar City. Additionally, Qatar also recently launched the world’s largest 3-D printed building project. This is for building massive public schools with each school covering about 20,000 m². As a result, the total 3-D printed building will be brought to 40,000 m², which is 40 times larger than any 3-D printed structure previously.
