Riyadh Metro’s Red Line Announces Expansion With 5 More Stations, Connecting To The Diriyah Gate

Ever since its opening, Riyadh Metro has truly been a time-saving form of public transport for people in the capital city. And recently, Saudi Arabia’s Royal Commission for Riyadh City announced that it has awarded the contract for extending the Red Line. Yes, adding 8.4 km and five new stations, here’s all you need to know about this big development relating to Riyadh Metro.

Riyadh Metro’s Red Line To Be Expanded

As mentioned in a report of the Gulf News, Riyadh Metro’s Red Line will see an extension. Often called the Line 2, this would be extended by 8.4 km. And out of this, 1.3 km is going to be elevated, and 7.1 km is going to be underground. This route would carry from the King Saud University to the Diriyah Gate development area. As it happens, it will have five stations, out of which two will be elevated, and three will be underground.

Reducing Travel Time For Commuters

It’s worth mentioning that this extension has been designed in such a way that it makes the area, which is one of the flagship heritage and tourism projects in the kingdom, more accessible by rail. The Red Line extension is one of the next major phases for the network. So, once the route is expanded, the journey from STC Station to Diriyah will take under 15 minutes! On the other hand, a trip from KAFD would also end up coming under 20 minutes.

Shifting More People To Public Transport

With the travel times expected to improve from King Fahd Sports City and from Qasr Al Hokm, it is going to shift more visitors and computers towards public transport.

This project is building on the metro system, which is rolling out in phases. It is a part of the broad push to reshape mobility in Riyadh. For those who aren’t aware, it comprises six lines. Yes, Riyadh Metro has six lines: Blue, Orange, Yellow, Red, Green, and Purple lines. It links different parts of the Saudi capital.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the train stations are equipped with amenities like air conditioning, trip information systems, commercial shops, and more for people, so that their daily commute becomes even better.
