According to the new amendments to the traffic law, expatriate residents can now be deported if they are convicted of dangerous driving offences. Here’s all you need to know about this traffic law-related development in Saudi Arabia.

Expats Convicted Of Dangerous Driving Can Now Be Deported

According to the new development in Saudi Arabia, residents who are convicted of dangerous driving offences that could put public safety at risk can now be deported. As revealed in a report by the Gulf News, it was mentioned that an expat who has been handed a final court ruling for a traffic violation, which has put public safety at risk, will be deported from the kingdom. Not to mention, they will also be permanently banned from re-entry.

Stricter Penalties For Repeat Offenders

This regulation has been coordinated by the Minister of Interior, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the public prosecution. The aim is to introduce strict penalties for those who are repeat offenders. A second violation within a year can trigger the maximum fine. Not to mention, a third one can lead to prison time of up to one year and even double financial penalties.

Saudi Arabia Cracks Down On Illegal Residents

This development comes at a time when Saudi Arabia has been cracking down on illegal residents. Yes, it deported 11,279 illegal residents just in the month of August. This came after a nationwide inspection took place, wherein over 20,000 people were arrested. Happening between August 21 and 27th, 20,319 people were accused of violating residency, labour, and border security laws.

With stringent laws in place, the aim is to ensure that there is order in the country.
