Saudi Arabia Prepares To Launch Air Taxis In Partnership With Archer Aviation

Saudi Arabia is taking a decisive step toward next-generation urban transport. It has been unveiled that plans are underway to introduce air taxi services across its major cities in Saudi Arabia.  The Kingdom has partnered with US-based Archer Aviation to make transportation easier and efficient across the dense urban cities.

Air Taxis Set For Saudi Cities Under New Archer Aviation Agreement

A leading manufacturer of electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, Archer Aviation, signed the agreement during the CoMotion Global Summit in Riyadh. The officials outlined how advanced air mobility is expected to support faster, cleaner, and more efficient travel across the Kingdom. The initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s national aviation strategy and long-term roadmap for future transportation systems.

Archer Aviation specialises in VTOL aircraft designed for short-distance urban travel. This is an alternative travel mode to road congestion while reducing emissions. Under the agreement, Saudi Arabia and Archer will collaborate on developing and expanding the regulatory framework required to support air taxi operations.

Firstly, they’ll align operational standards and certification as mentioned in a report by Saudi Gazette under the introduced framework, so the future rollout meets international benchmarks, keeping local infrastructure in mind.

Further, the collaboration will help authorities to test, evaluate, and refine systems before the roll out.

Test Flights And Infrastructure Planning

Before they commence the roll-out of air taxis, the agreement allows for a series of test flights and proof-of-concept demonstrations within Saudi Arabia. Trials will be followed by public awareness campaigns to familiarise residents with the concept of air taxis.

The location of launch of these air taxis in the kingdom is under wraps. But we can expect it to roll out on major urban centres with congestion, population density, and economic activity.
