Sharjah Police recently announced that there will now be designated lanes, introduced for motorcycles, delivery bikes, heavy vehicles, and buses. This will be across all the major and secondary roads in the emirate. Yes, this announcement by the Sharjah Police comes in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority, and here’s all you need to know about the new traffic arrangement.

Gulf News, in its report, mentions how the new traffic arrangement will come into effect from November 1st. The announcement made by Sharjah Police clarified that there will be the introduction of lanes designated for motorcycles, delivery bikes, heavy vehicles, and buses. As it happens, the motorcycles are allowed to use the third and fourth lines from the right, if the road has four lines. In case of three lanes, the motorcycles will be allowed to use the middle or the right lane according to the approved traffic regulation. And if the road comprises only two lanes, they can only use the right lane

Drivers Urged To Follow The New Lane Allocation

As confirmed by the authority, they will be closely monitoring the motorists for their compliance. This will be done around the clock through smart radar, traffic patrols deployed across the emirate, and advanced camera systems. The report further revealed how the system would help in ensuring the drivers follow the new lane allocation and traffic instructions. As it happens, these violations will incur penalties as mentioned in the Federal Traffic Law. Yes, under Article 8, heavy vehicle drivers who do not comply with the mandatory lane regulations can face a fine of AED1,500 and 12 black points.

In fact, Article 70 also imposes a fine of AED500 in case of non-compliance with traffic signs or instructions. As a result, motorists have been urged by the Sharjah Police to follow the new lane rules. As it happens, the authority has also laid emphasis on the fact that this regulation is a part of its broad commitment towards strengthening a culture of traffic safety. Not to mention, it also aims to ensure efficient, organised mobility across the emirate.
