Sharjah: Historic Market In Khor Fakkan To Be Redeveloped Under The Name Craftsmen’s Houses

His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, who is the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has directed Sharjah Institute for Heritage to develop the old market in Khor Fakkan. Yes, he directed the institute to expand, renovate, and revive Souk Sharq, which is in the eastern city. It is a part of their effort to preserve traditional craft and to enhance cultural tourism.

Souk Sharq To Be Redeveloped By Ruler Of Sharjah

The plan mentions how the old market will be redeveloped under the name Craftsmen’s Houses. This would create a dedicated hub for artisans who specialise in traditional handicrafts and heritage skills. Through the restoration project, workshops will be provided, and there will be live demonstrations. There, visitors will be able to learn about and engage with traditional crafts. As a result, it will offer an interactive experience for residents and tourists.

So, officials have mentioned how the development aims to preserve Emirati heritage. Not to mention, it will also support artisans and will pass traditional skills onto the younger generations. Moreover, visitors will get to dive deeper into the history of the city.

It is located near Khor Fakkan Beach and revitalise heritage hub, which would in turn enrich the waterfront setting in the city. As it boosts the city’s position as a cultural and tourism destination on the east coast of the UAE, it’s bound to attract more visitors.

Finally, it should be noted that this initiative is a part of the Emirates’ strategy to safeguard cultural heritage and to integrate into community life.

In fact, it was revealed just a few days ago that the coastlines of Khor Fakkan may have a new AED8 million heritage project. Once complete, it would reshape the area, which would be about a century-old archaeological site. This would bring together history, shopping, and dining in a single location. This development would focus on restoring the historic remains and also creating a welcoming space for visitors.
