The mosque was opened this week and provided a solemn architectural setting for the sacred month, with ample space and natural light.

Sharjah Unveils The Al Nasr Mosque, With Stunning Glass Dome, Ahead Of Ramadan

The first day of Ramadan was celebrated when the moon-sighting committee of the UAE. It announced the opening of the mosque by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi.

In the Al Dhaid region in the Jabal Omar Al Nassr area of 7,800sqm, the mosque stands subtly, but attractively. The glass dome is a large sphere, which bounces the daylight and becomes soft after the sun has set, giving the effect of a cosy, peaceful atmosphere. The 38m tall minaret strikes a balance between beauty and height.

The design combines and blends traditional Islamic designs with contemporary materials, which Sharjah has mastered.

Constructed To House Ramadan And Daily Prayers

Capacity was a key focus. The mosque can hold 1,325 worshippers who are spread across different locations. The central prayer hall can accommodate 470 attendees. There are 140 others in an outside courtyard and 570 in an outside prayer area. There are 145 women in the women’s hall, which is inclusive.

Sheikh Sultan conducted Maghrib prayer, which is the daily fast break, during his visit. It was a silent but strong scene that highlighted the purpose of the mosque over the architecture.

A Part Of The Larger Vision Of A Mosque In Sharjah

This opening isn’t a one‑off, but a part of the grander scheme of Sharjah to increase the religious spaces. In the year 2010 alone, there were 20 new mosques which opened before Ramadan, with a population of more than 2000 people.
