Grand Egyptian Museum To Open In November

The Grand Egyptian Museum, which is set near the Pyramids of Giza, is all set to officially open its doors to the public. As revealed in a report by the Gulf News, this museum will boost the treasures of Tutankhamun. Amongst its collection of over 1,00,000 ancient Egyptian artefacts, you will find some priceless exhibits that are bound to attract visitors from around the world.

The Museum Is Spread Across 50 Hectares

Spread across 50 hectares or 124 acres, this museum is considered to be the largest museum in the world that is dedicated to a single civilisation. Truly an exceptional event, the museum showcases Egypt’s cultural heritage, and it will also attract visitors from around the world. It should be noted that earlier the opening was set for July 3, but due to several setbacks, the opening has been delayed, and now it’s happening in November.

The museum is designed by Heneghan Peng Architects. In case you’re wondering, this is a Dublin firm, which draws on Pharaonic styles. Although the structure is almost shaped like a Chamfered Pyramid, the North and South walls are aligned with the Great Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Menkaure.

A Journey Across Time

With an alabaster stone at the entrance, the museum looks quite similar to a collection of pyramids. As it happens, the diorama of the museum is displayed inside and has windows that overlook the Great Pyramids.

Coming to the gallery, they’ve been arranged in three spaces. Each of these has been dedicated to a specific time period, which includes the Prehistoric Period, the Middle Kingdom, the Late Period, and the Graeco-Roman Period, to name some. As you might have gathered, the space is a transition across time that makes it feel like a journey across different time periods for visitors.

Well, this is truly impressive and warrants your attention once it opens its doors to the public.
