When you prepare food using cooking oil, chances are that there are a few extra tablespoons that often get left behind in the utensils. These used cooking oils are thrown away as they are generally deemed unfit for a second use. But what if we tell you that soon, it might just be transformed into clean fuel? Well, as a part of Dubai’s environmental initiative, a new project aims to transform used cooking oil into clean fuel. Here’s how!
Used Cooking Oil To Be Converted To Clean Fuel?
To make this a reality, the Dubai Municipality is collaborating with BiOD Technology FZCO. Yes, the aim of this project is to reduce pollution and the pressure on sewage infrastructure. As a result, together, it’s bound to advance the transition of Dubai towards green energy. As per the agreement signed between the authorities, used cooking oil, along with fats, oils, and grease, will be collected from across the emirate. After this, it will be processed into B100 biodiesel. For the unversed, it will be converted into a renewable, cleaner-burning alternative as compared to diesel.
Why Is It Beneficial?
As revealed in a report by the Khaleej Times, the initiative is also expected to reduce the operational cost of wastewater treatment. Additionally, once the load on the silver pipelines reduce, it’s going to prevent sewer blockages as well. After all, a lot of these blockages happen due to improper disposal of grease and oil. To make this happen, Dubai Municipality has authorised BiOD to manage this citywide collection. Did you know it is a subsidiary of Dubai Holding? Yes, the initiative is not only going to promote sustainable waste management but also offers innovative recycling solutions that align with Dubai Vision 2030.
