Yes, they have pledged to reduce the sugar by 10% to 20% across a range of everyday products. And this will be rolled out just in time for back-to-school season in September 2026.

As revealed in a report of the Gulf News, Al Ain Farms and Marmum Dairy have pledged to reduce added sugar by 10% to 20%. So, the products are being re-formulated, and they include flavoured milk, laban, and yoghurt from the two brands. For those wondering, these are household staples across the UAE. It is a part of Abu Dhabi’s healthy living strategy. This is a part of a joint government and private sector effort, which aims to make healthy food options more accessible in everyday life.
Al Ain Farms Group Pledges To Reduce Added Sugar
In fact, it was just recently when Abu Dhabi Media Office released the news of Al Ain Farms Group committing to reducing added sugars. The group is the parent company of the two brands, and they also plan to expand their portfolio with new healthy product ranges. In fact, the reformulation is also being closely developed and in close collaboration with Healthy Living and the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council.
For those who aren’t aware, the Al Ain Farms Group had already launched a new healthy product range in 2026. The reformulation of the existing products is just following this development. The updated version of laboured milk, laban and yoghurt is expected to be available in September, as mentioned previously.

Tiered Tax On Sugar
The development comes as the UAE is moving to reshape its sweet drinks landscape. Since January 1st, 2026, the country has placed a tiered system for the sugar tax. Yes, these are directly linked to the sugar content, which charges more for drinks that have a higher sugar level, and those with a lower sugar level beyond a certain level are exempted.
This decision has been taken to reduce non-communicable diseases that are linked to excessive sugar consumption.
