Cool mornings are finally back in the UAE, which means everyone is dragging tents out of storage. Tis the season of convincing friends to “disconnect from the city”, and plotting weekend escapes to deserts, mountains and hidden nature spots. But before you start planning your camping in the UAE, here’s the necessary part you must know. Winter camping in the UAE comes with clear rules, and skipping them would lead to penalties that can drain your wallet.
Winter Camping In UAE 2025-26: Rules & Penalties To Know
Let’s start with the biggest camping offence. Leaving the trash behind. If you burn it or bury it, you are setting yourself up for problems. Federal Law No. 12 of 2018 is crystal clear. Waste dumping outside designated areas can cost individuals up to AED30,000. For companies, it is a whopping AED1 million.
According to a report by Gulf News, Federal Law No. 24 of 1999 protects reserves, trees and wildlife. Chopping wood, plucking plants, or disturbing animals is not allowed. These offences carry jail time of up to six months and fines that start at AED10,000 and climb based on how vulnerable the species is.
Then we have local municipal rules. Emirates like Sharjah and Fujairah fine up to AED2,000 for camping in unauthorised areas or leaving waste behind. Patrols increase in winter. Look for permitted camping signage, follow barbecue rules, and do not set up camp anywhere that screams “this feels slightly illegal”.
Safety Precautions During Winter Camping In The UAE
Now let’s talk about safety during camping in the UAE. Avoid camping in wadis or low areas that can flood within minutes. If it is raining or stormy, authorities urge everyone to avoid open fires and electrical setups. Road rules are tougher now as well. Under Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2024, entering valleys or flood zones during rain means a AED2,000 fine, 23 black points and a 60-day vehicle impound. Gathering near valleys or dams during storms is another AED1,000 and six points.
