Parking in Abu Dhabi might finally become less annoying. No digging for coins or rushing to send an SMS before the timer runs out. Finally, relief from standing in front of payment machines while someone behind you sighs loudly. Q Mobility has launched a new smart parking system in the capital, and the whole thing works through AI and the Darb app wallet. It’s being called as a free-flow paid parking system in Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi Has Launched AI Parking That Charges You Automatically As You Leave

The idea is pretty simple. You drive in, park your car and leave when you’re done. The system handles the rest automatically.
The new setup uses artificial intelligence and automatic number plate recognition to detect vehicles as they enter and exit parking areas.
So once a car enters, the parking session begins automatically. When the vehicle leaves, the fee gets deducted directly from the user’s Darb wallet. No QR codes. No tickets. No manual payment steps.
The Parking Starts On Its Own Without You Doing Anything
Honestly, for many drivers, that’s probably the biggest selling point.
People in Abu Dhabi are already used to digital systems for tolls and transport, but parking has still involved those extra tiny steps that everyone forgets at least once. Especially during busy days or quick errands.
But with this new system, the aim seems to be making parking feel almost invisible.

Relief From Paper Tickets, Cash & Fines
The service also removes paper tickets and cash payments completely, which fits into Abu Dhabi’s wider push towards digital services and smart infrastructure.
That said, drivers still need to keep enough balance in their Darb wallet. Q Mobility made that pretty clear because if the wallet balance were low, users could still face fines or interrupted payments.
So the stress of parking might disappear, but the stress of remembering to top up your wallet probably stays.
The service is currently rolling out gradually across Abu Dhabi. In the first phase, it will be available in selected private parking areas and multi-storey parking facilities before expanding further across the emirate later on.
And honestly, this feels like one of those changes people won’t fully appreciate until they no longer need to do things manually.
