Dubai has always been fitness-forward. From Dubai running to new initiatives for public health, the emirate has been in the headlines. And, now Abu Dhabi is also making new headlines by going all in with its new Healthy Living Strategy. What is it? Well, it’s Abu Dhabi’s promise to people for better support, awareness, and a lifestyle that pushes you to live a healthier lifestyle.
Abu Dhabi Rolls Out New Healthy Living Strategy For Residents
Developed under the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, the strategy takes aim at the issues affecting people the most, as mentioned in a report by Arabian Business. We’re talking obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. These are the conditions that often creep into daily life without warning. The idea here is simple but powerful: prevent the problem before it turns into one.
What sets this plan apart is its long-term vision. This campaign is a multi-year commitment that pulls in government entities, private organisations, and the community to promote fitness across the emirate.
Three Pillars That Make The Strategy Practical
In the first rollout, the focus sits on three main pillars:
- Getting people moving: More physical activity, whether that means better public spaces, new community programmes, or simple routines people can stick to.
- Improving diet and nutrition: An improvised plan so our hands don’t reach out to just karaks and shawarmas every time we are hungry.
- Boosting awareness and knowledge: When people understand how their daily choices affect long-term health, they’re more likely to take action.
There’s also emphasis on sleep and mental well-being apart from the physical. It’s refreshing to see a strategy acknowledge that burnout and insomnia are treated as threats as much as obesity and other illnesses are.
Making Health The Easy Choice
This strategy feels practical instead of just telling people to eat better or move more and then leaving them hanging. Healthy Living Strategy aims to create an environment that supports those choices through infrastructure, new regulations, friendly reminders, and community programmes.
The strategy also uses digital tools to identify high-risk groups. That means targeted support instead of generic campaigns. If certain communities need specific interventions, they’ll get them.

More Than 20 Initiatives on the Way
Over 20 initiatives have already been approved for the first wave. They’ll be rolled out by government departments and private partners over the next year. It’s a solid start, and if even half of these initiatives take hold, Abu Dhabi is well on its way to becoming one of the healthiest cities in the region.
