This one really hits home for Dubai drivers and their wallets. Parkin has started a new program called “Spots for Shops,” which changes the way people usually talk about parking. You can park near participating businesses, shop there, and get your parking fee back as credit starting on May 1, 2026. Yes, really. Pay first, then shop, and the system will put the money back in your Parkin wallet.
Dubai Will Be Free To Park In May 2026 With Parkin’s “Spots for Shops”
How The System Works
It’s easy to do, not a lot of steps and no guessing. You park in a Parkin zone, pay the fee like you normally would, and then walk into a store that is taking part. You have to buy something, and the merchant will validate your parking through the Parkin app. That’s it. The fee is returned as credits.
Parkin says the goal is to turn over 250,000 parking spots into “welcome mats” for businesses in the area. It’s a smart way to link footfall to spending without making people change their habits too much.
Not Only Cafés And Restaurants
This isn’t limited to food stops. The list has everything from little cafés and tailors to grocery stores, hair salons, and even places that cut keys. Ravi Restaurant, Soam Vegetarian, Cycle 2 Cycle, and Naif Baker are some of the names that are already on board.
That variety is important. You don’t have to do anything special to get the benefits. A place you already go to may be part of the plan.
A Boost For Small Businesses
This story is what really happened behind the headlines. Small businesses often lose customers over small costs, like parking fees. This project gets rid of that problem. It gives stores a fair chance to get drivers who are just passing through to stop. Business owners can even join for free. No extra work or extra fees. Just a way to get more people to come in.

Why This Could Change Your Habits
Let’s be real. People think twice about stopping if they think parking will be a pain.
“Spots for Shops” deals with that doubt head-on. It encourages drivers to try a new café, buy groceries close by, or finally go to that tailor they’ve been putting off.
If it works, it could reshape how people move around the city, one parking spot at a time.
