The Holy Kaaba in Saudi Arabia will be undergoing its annual ceremonial washing. This will happen on June 30th (if you do the Math is today), which is 15 Muharram. The authorities in the Kingdom will cleanse the holiest sanctuary in Islam with Zamzam water, which will be mixed with rose water and premium fragrances. Here’s all you need to know about the centuries-old ritual in Islam.

Holy Kaaba To Be Washed In Centuries-Old Tradition

The Holy Kaaba in Saudi Arabia will be undergoing ceremonial washing, which symbolises reverence, purity and continuing care for the grand mosque by the Kingdom. As revealed by the Gulf News, this is performed in accordance with the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad. Interior walls, floors, and columns of the Kaaba will be washed with Zamzam water. This water will also be blended with rose water and will be prepared by the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques.

How Does The Washing Take Place?

The process begins with preparation and cleaning of the interior of the Kaaba. After this, the walls, floors, and columns are carefully cleansed with the help of a white cloth that is dipped in premium rose and musk fragrances. The blended Zamzam water is then poured on the floor and wiped by hand with the help of palm leaves. The interior is perfumed with the finest essence and aromatic oils. This annual ceremony is one of the most significant religious observances. Each year, the doors of the Kaaba are opened so that ceremonial washing can take place under carefully organised procedures.
