Recently, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salma announced that he was launching the King Salman Gate project. This is a mixed-use destination in Makkah, and it will be developed right adjacent to the Grand Mosque. Read on as we are here to tell you all about it.
King Salman Gate Project Launched
As revealed in a report by the Saudi Gazette, the development would cover a total built-up area of 12 million m². The King Salman Gate Project aims to transform the infrastructure in Makkah and the urban landscape as well. Additionally, it aims to convert it into a global model of sustainable urban development. With the project seeking to enhance services for visitors and pilgrims, this would enrich their spiritual and cultural journeys. It also aligns with the objectives of the pilgrimage experience programme, which comes under the Saudi Vision 2030, as mentioned in the same report.
This Is Mixed-Use Development
The mixed-use project is going to be located near the Grand Mosque. Additionally, it would offer residential, cultural, and service facilities, which would surround the holy mosque. With an added capacity for about 9,00,000 worshippers in the indoor and outdoor areas, you can imagine the size of this development.

As further revealed by the Saudi Gazette, about 19,000 m² of heritage and cultural zones will be rehabilitated as part of the project.
Finally, it should be noted that this project is being developed by Rou’a Al-Haram Al-Makki Company, which is a Public Investment Fund subsidiary. With a focus on sustainable resources management and innovative development solutions, it aims to improve the quality of life of residents and the pilgrims as well.
