UAE Issues Updated Ebola Travel Advisory

In a report of the Gulf News, it was mentioned how the Ministry of Health and Prevention has outlined precautionary measures for travellers as they continue to monitor the Ebola outbreak. Linked to the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, this is to ensure that the risk of infection amongst travellers is reduced. Not to mention, they’ve been asked to seek advice immediately if any symptoms develop and to inform the healthcare providers of any recent travel history.

Avoid Unnecessary Travel To DR Congo, Uganda & South Sudan

This guidance is a part of recent advice issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It recommends against travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and South Sudan except for when it’s necessary. It is mentioned how Ebola symptoms typically appear between two to twenty one days after exposure. Initially, it might include fever, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, sore throat, weakness, and abdominal pain. However, in severe cases, the progress could be to internal or external bleeding, failure and even shock.

What Does WHO Say About Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease?

Currently, the World Health Organisation has classified the outbreak of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease as a public health emergency of international concern. However, the organisation is continuing to assess the overall global public health risk as low.

The ministry mentions how the virus spreads through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of an infected person, contaminated surfaces and materials. It could also spread through infected wildlife or contaminated animal products, and even the bodies of deceased people with the disease.

So, people have been advised to travel only if there is a necessity to the mentioned regions.
