Dubai’s food scene keeps throwing curveballs, and honestly, Al Quoz just got hit with a good one. Chef Lynn Hazim, the brain (and camera) behind the cult No Soup For You, has opened Middle Child on Alserkal Avenue.

The concept? Take the forgotten middle sibling, sprinkle in some serious foodie imagination, and voilà: a spot that’s playful, personal, and impossible to ignore. Come on, we all know middle children usually get the short end; Hazim’s here to prove otherwise.

Why Middle Child Feels Different

Middle Child isn’t just another café. It’s three things wrapped into one:

  • Communal table and open kitchen: You might end up sharing bites or stories with strangers, and honestly, that’s half the fun.
  • Cookbook corner: For people who get oddly excited about flipping pages and sniffing glossy recipe shots. (You know who you are.)
  • Gourmet grocery: Jars, sauces, international goodies, stuff you didn’t know you needed until you see it stacked neatly in front of you.

Back in May, Hazim teased sketches on Instagram. Walking in now, the space delivers: comfy seating, a long table that whispers “sit a while”, and a minimalist-cool vibe that somehow feels warm.

Comfort Food, But Elevated

The menu is simple, yet never boring. Elevated comfort dishes that make you pause and wonder, “Why isn’t everyone serving this?” Shelves of 500+ cookbooks tower nearby, while pantry items quietly beg to be carried home. Truth be told, leaving empty-handed is harder than it should be.

The food philosophy? Keep it satisfying, creative, and approachable. Middle Child nails that balance in ways that feel effortless, yet intentional.

From Beirut To Dubai

Hazim grew up in Beirut and now calls Dubai home. She left a decade at Google for full-time culinary adventures, not a typical path, but then again, she’s not your typical chef. Her blog earned a loyal following for a reason: candid reviews, drool-worthy photos, and curiosity that’s contagious.

Middle Child feels like an extension of all that: her personality, her tastes, her community-minded approach. You can linger, explore, taste, and leave inspired, not overwhelmed.
