The Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA) has launched a new nationwide initiative with a genuinely ambitious number attached to it: 10 billion steps, logged collectively by residents across the Kingdom between now and the end of December 2026. It’s called the “10 Billion Steps” initiative, and it’s built around Saudi’s Vision 2030 push for healthier, more active lifestyles, but without asking anyone to commit to a gym contract to get there.
What The “10 Billion Steps” Challenge Actually Involves
The mechanics are straightforward. You log your daily movement through the SFA mobile app, sync your device, and your steps get added to a running national tally. There are personal progress trackers and friendly milestone challenges built in too, so it’s less “fitness programme” and more a gamified nudge to move a bit more than you already do.
The Point Isn’t The Gym, It’s Everything Else
What’s interesting about the messaging here is what it’s deliberately not asking for. The campaign slogan, “Don’t Count Your Steps… Let Them Count,” is built around the idea that most of us are already moving more than we give ourselves credit for, walking through the office, doing the school pickup on foot, and pacing around the kitchen while dinner’s on. SFA President Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal has framed it as an open invitation for every individual in the Kingdom to contribute to one shared goal, built on small, repeatable daily choices rather than a dramatic lifestyle overhaul.
It’s a shift away from the idea that fitness needs specialised training or dedicated facilities and towards treating movement as something that’s already baked into daily life; it just needs tracking.

How To Actually Take Part
Getting involved takes about two minutes. Download the SFA app, connect your phone or wearable, and start logging. The initiative runs from July through December 2026, so there’s a solid runway to build the habit rather than a weekend sprint. Whether you’re in Riyadh, Jeddah, or anywhere else in the Kingdom, every step syncs into the same collective goal, and given how walkable Saudi Arabia’s newer public spaces and waterfronts have become, hitting a personal daily target might be easier than it sounds.
