Contemporary Levantine dining, rooftop seating and AlUla date desserts at The Chedi Hegra.  AlUla has never struggled to give travellers a reason to visit. Sandstone canyons, ancient tombs and a growing list of luxury stays already do the job. Now there is another one, and it’s best approached hungry.

A Table Inside Hegra

Nasim Hegra, a new restaurant and lounge at The Chedi Hegra, is serving contemporary Levantine cuisine inside Hegra, Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. The name translates to ‘gentle breeze’, and the setting is about as atmospheric as dinner gets in the Kingdom.

A Hotel Built From A 1906 Railway Station

The Chedi Hegra is the only hotel within the ancient site itself. It occupies 15 restored stone buildings that once formed part of the 1906 railway station linking Damascus and Madinah, with the design led by Giò Forma.  Nasim gives you more than one way to dine. There’s rooftop seating at Skyview, a lounge serving Levantine tapas, and private dining for smaller, more intimate gatherings.

What’s On The Menu

The seven-chapter à la carte menu puts a contemporary spin on familiar flavours. Expect Bluefin Nayeh, Lobster Kibbeh, Baby Lamb Arayes, Char-Grilled Octopus and Spiced Toothfish Sayadieh. For a serious appetite, there’s also a 1.2kg Wagyu Tomahawk, which is best shared rather than tackled solo.

Dining in a group? The Taste of Nasim and Taste of Hegra menus run to four courses designed for sharing, so nobody has to referee the ordering.

Dessert And Drinks

Save room for dessert. The Barni Date Warm Cake is made with dates grown in AlUla, while the Chocolate Stones are intriguing enough to order on name alone.

The drinks list is alcohol-free. Choose from signature Sip of Hegra mocktails, alcohol-free classics, speciality coffees and traditional Saudi coffee poured from a dallah.

It also joins an AlUla dining scene that already includes MICHELIN-recognised names such as Harrat, Tama, Somewhere, Joontos and Tofareya, so the destination keeps getting more interesting for food lovers.
