Nobu has officially opened its first restaurant in Egypt’s capital, setting up home in the Eastown District, New Cairo. And it wasn’t a quiet opening either. Chef Nobu Matsuhisa himself flew into Cairo to cut the ribbon and welcome guests during an exclusive preview ahead of the public launch.
Nobu Opens Its First Cairo Restaurant As Egypt Becomes A Bigger Luxury Player
The preview event brought together people from Egypt’s business, hospitality, cultural and lifestyle circles for an early look inside the new space.
Guests were served some of the restaurant’s best-known plates, including Black Cod Miso, Yellowtail Jalapeño and Nobu’s sushi selection that has become something of a calling card around the world.
The menu still follows the formula people know well Japanese cooking with Peruvian influences mixed in. But the restaurant has also tried to take on a little of Cairo’s own character rather than feeling copied and pasted from somewhere else.
Chef Nobu Says Egypt Feels Like The Right Fit
During his visit, Chef Nobu spoke about the warmth and energy he experienced while spending time in Egypt.
He said each Nobu destination takes inspiration from the people and places around it, and Cairo was no exception.
Egypt has slowly become a market that more international hospitality brands are paying attention to, especially as luxury travel projects continue appearing across the country.

It’s No Longer Just About Restaurants
The Cairo opening comes during a particularly busy week for the brand in Egypt.
Only days earlier, actor Robert De Niro joined executives from Nobu Hospitality and SODIC in London to introduce Nobu Residences at OGAMI on Egypt’s North Coast.
Meanwhile, Nobu North Coast is preparing to welcome guests back for its second summer season this July.
Nobu isn’t simply opening restaurants in Egypt anymore. The company is building hotels, branded homes and lifestyle destinations that stretch beyond dining.
Chef Nobu also visited OGAMI during his trip to see the site that will eventually include a Nobu hotel, residences and another restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean.
Nobu New Cairo officially opens for reservations from July 16.
