According to a report by Travel Weekly Asia, the move will create a fully connected guest journey between Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan. Basically, travellers will soon be able to experience Egypt’s most famous cultural corridor under one Mandarin Oriental.

Old Cataract In Aswan Enters A New Era

In Aswan, the legendary Old Cataract hotel will be taken over by nder Mandarin Oriental under its management from May 2026. The property has hosted royalty, writers, and global figures for over a century, offering terrace views of the Nile.

Guests can continue staying in the historic Palace wing during the renovations phase on the Nile wing. The full transformation is expected to finish by July 2027, when the property reopens as Mandarin Oriental Old Cataract, Aswan.

The brand plans a careful restoration rather than a full redesign. The goal is to protect the hotel’s character while elevating service and interiors to Mandarin Oriental standards.

Winter Palace Luxor To Undergo Full Restoration

In Luxor, the famed Winter Palace will close in early 2026 for a complete restoration. It will reopen in July 2027 as Mandarin Oriental Winter Palace, Luxor.

The Winter Palace stands in the vicinity of Luxor Temple. It has long served as a gateway for travellers visiting the Valley of the Kings and other ancient sites.

The upcoming renovation will refresh guest rooms, public areas, and facilities. Yet the historic architecture will remain front and centre.

A First For The Brand: Luxury Nile River Cruise

Completing the trio is Mandarin Oriental’s first luxury river cruise.

The cruise is currently in the design phase, and it will offer three, four, and seven-night itineraries between Luxor and Aswan. Guests will stay in spacious suites and enjoy three dining venues, along with a dedicated wellness area.

Expect expert-led talks, guided excursions, and immersive site visits for cultural escapes.
