In the early hours of August 8, a 25-year-old Chinese man was taken into custody in Singapore after he was accused of stealing bag from a fellow business class passenger on a flight from Dubai. The man might have gotten away unnoticed—if not for the victim’s wife. She reportedly spotted the act, confronted him directly, and watched as he quietly returned the bag to its place. Without delay, she woke her husband and told him exactly what had happened, ensuring the matter would not be brushed aside when the plane landed.
Passenger Questioned At Changi Airport
The moment the aircraft touched down, officers from the Airport Police Division boarded and spoke with the man. When pressed for an explanation, he was said to have offered no convincing reason for his actions. He was promptly arrested before he could make his connecting flight.
Police later confirmed that the suspect would face a formal theft charge under Singapore’s Penal Code. If convicted, he could spend up to three years in prison, pay a fine, or face both penalties. The swift intervention at Changi Airport meant the case never had a chance to slip through the cracks.
Not An Isolated Incident
This episode isn’t the first time Changi Airport has dealt with high-profile theft. Just weeks earlier, a 38-year-old Indian national was accused of stealing perfumes, cosmetics, and designer bags worth more than SGD 5,000 from multiple shops inside Jewel Changi Airport. Authorities said he left Singapore shortly after the thefts but was arrested upon his return on June 1. His case was formally announced in a press statement on July 23.
