There have been days when you have been left standing for a long time waiting for the metro in Dubai. If the above line was just relatable to you, like it was to us, here’s some good news. Finally, you can do something regarding the Dubai Metro delays. Google Maps has quietly rolled out a new feature for commuters to report Dubai Metro delays in real time. Yes, it is turning everyday riders into real-time data contributors and solving your commute problems halfway through.
Commuters Can Now Report Dubai Metro Delays Directly On Google Maps
The new update on Google Maps will be implemented on the Red and Green lines in Dubai. It will cover key routes from Centrepoint to Expo, Creek, e& and Life Pharmacy stations.
Where to find this feature? Open Google Maps and find it right next to the “Directions” button, or while viewing a specific route. If you are already signed in to your Google Account, it will take a few minutes to alert fellow passengers about slow trains. A little kindness can help others plan their commute better in Dubai.
As mentioned in a report by Gulf News, there’s yet to be an official announcement by Google or Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). But the feature appears to be in a pilot or phased rollout stage. Early users have already spotted it in action. This can really transform the commuting game in Dubai for metro users.
How Does It Work?
So, this update isn’t your generic automated delay tracker introduced by Google Maps. Instead, it’s crowdsourced. Commuters can easily report delays themselves. All they need to do is take a live snapshot of the destination of delay across the metro network. Once it’s reported on Google Maps’ new feature, it appears as an alert for other users to see.
If you’re in the same area and notice a report, you can confirm whether it’s still accurate by selecting:
- Yes — if the train is still delayed
- No — if things are back on track
- Not sure — if you’re uncertain
This way, the system self-corrects and becomes more reliable with each interaction.

Making Commutes Less Stressful
Dubai’s RTA already shares real-time bus data through Google Maps. We agree that it helps passengers track arrivals and plan trips more efficiently. But with this new enhancement, Google Maps marks another milestone in the city’s push toward smarter, data-driven mobility.
