Long immigration queues at Dubai International Airport may soon be a thing of the past. The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai has officially launched “Click and Travel,” a mobile immigration service that lets passport officers complete a passenger’s entry or departure procedure in roughly 12 to 15 seconds, using nothing more than a handheld device.
Dubai Airport Can Now Process You Through Immigration In Under 15 Seconds
The system combines biometric fingerprint technology, facial recognition and electronic passport reading with automated pre-screening and instant access to passenger records through a secure communications network. Instead of a passenger walking up to a fixed counter, an officer carrying a mobile device can process the transaction on the spot, wherever the passenger happens to be standing.
Built To Move With The Crowd, Not Against It
That mobility is the real shift here. Officers are no longer tied to booths, which means they can move through arrival and departure halls and process passengers directly, giving GDRFA the flexibility to redirect resources wherever congestion builds up, whether that’s a delayed flight bank, a public holiday rush or an unexpected surge in passenger volume.
From Pilot To Full Rollout
The service didn’t launch overnight. The first pilot began in October 2025 at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport before expanding in May 2026 to cover all passenger categories across Dubai’s airport terminals. Between the pilot’s start and the end of August 2026, “Click and Travel” processed more than 31,000 passengers, giving GDRFA the data it needed to justify the September 7 official launch, announced at a press conference led by Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri and Major General Talal Ahmed Al Shanqiti.

The service is open to UAE citizens, residents, GCC nationals and visitors alike, positioning it as a system-wide upgrade rather than a perk for a specific traveller category.
